Administration

Dear Drexel Elementary families,

I am so excited to continue my journey as a Wolverine as principal for the 2021-22 school year! We are going to have a great year together! Drexel has a great group of dedicated staff members focused on providing an excellent learning environment for all students. As I begin my third school year as Principal of Drexel Elementary, I am energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our children. We will accomplish this together by setting high academic expectations for all children and providing supportive systems to ensure goals are reached. Furthermore, we will provide safe and inclusive classrooms where the diverse social and emotional needs of all students are met by putting relationships first.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Jack, and my two sons, Luke and Graham. I also enjoy reading and staying current with best practices in education and I feel that I will always be a life-long learner. I work under the philosophy that everything we do in our school should be done with the best interest of our students in mind. I am determined to support every child, every day at Drexel Elementary and I will bring the energy, passion, and commitment needed to continue to make Drexel an exemplary school.

I am a Burke County native and graduated from East Burke High School. I attended UNC-Chapel Hill for my undergraduate degree as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. After college, I taught French for five years in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg district. During this time, I obtained a Masters in K-12 French as well as a Masters in School Administration from UNC-Charlotte as a North Carolina Principal Fellow. I am currently working towards a EdD degree at Western Carolina University.
I look forward to working with all of our students, families, staff, and the Drexel community. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time.

Go Wolverines!
Jessie Gravel

Assistant Principal
My name is Sarah Call. I am so excited to join the Drexel Elementary family this fall as your assistant principal. I’d like to take this opportunity to share a little bit about myself. I have been in elementary education for 7 years, teaching second grade as well as kindergarten through fifth grade exceptional children in Burke County Public Schools. My husband, Andrew, works at North Liberty School. We have four children: Abigail, Simeon, Isaiah, and Ezekiel. Our family enjoys outdoor adventures and we try to squeeze in as many as we can!

I am honored to be joining the Drexel family this coming school year and will work hard to build positive relationships within our community. I am committed to education as my life’s work because I believe it is the key that can unlock doors of opportunity for our students. I believe that all students can achieve. I deeply value the community as a whole, seeing our potential to affect positive change for the future through our students.

I look forward to meeting each of you and working together to make 2022-2023 an amazing year for our students!
